Build Your Own City
Answer maths questions to earn coins, then build your dream city!
Subject: Maths — Mixed Operations | Age Range: Ages 5–14 (Year 1–8) | Time to Play: 15–30 minutes
City Builder is our most creative educational game — a maths-powered city simulation where every building is unlocked by answering maths questions correctly. Players earn 50 coins for every correct answer, and then spend those coins on buildings: a House costs 100 coins (just two correct answers), a Park costs 200, a School costs 300, a Hospital costs 500, and a Skyscraper costs 1,000. Buildings are placed on a 5×5 grid, and players can design their city in any configuration they choose, making City Builder as much an exercise in spatial reasoning and planning as it is in maths. The longer a child plays, the more elaborate their city becomes — creating a genuinely satisfying long-term project that keeps them returning across multiple sessions. The city and coin total are automatically saved to the device, so progress is never lost. The maths questions scale with the four age groups: simple addition for ages 5–7, multiplication and division for ages 8–10, and challenging multi-step arithmetic for teen players. City Builder is particularly popular with children who describe themselves as "not maths people" — because the goal of the game is building a beautiful city, and maths is just the path to get there. This reframing of maths as a means rather than an end is one of the most effective strategies for engaging children who have developed negative attitudes toward the subject. The game also develops basic financial literacy: children must decide whether to save their coins for an expensive hospital or spend them quickly on smaller buildings — a genuine opportunity to discuss budgeting and value.
