Pick a hero to battle the monsters
Subject: Maths — Mixed Operations | Age Range: Ages 5–14 (Year 1–8) | Time to Play: 10–15 minutes
Monster Battle is a maths role-playing game that puts children in command of a hero battling a series of increasingly tough monsters. Players begin by choosing a character — the brave Knight, the clever Wizard, the mechanical Robot, or the adventurous Explorer — each with a unique design but equivalent gameplay. They then face five monsters in sequence, each with 100 health points. To deal damage to a monster, the player must answer a maths question correctly. A correct answer deals 25 damage to the monster. An incorrect answer causes the monster to retaliate, reducing the player's health by 20 points. The game ends when the player defeats all five monsters (victory!) or runs out of health points (game over — try again!). The health point mechanic is deliberately designed to create meaningful stakes without frustration: players can survive several incorrect answers and still win, encouraging them to persist even when they make mistakes. The maths questions scale with the chosen age group, covering addition and subtraction for younger players and multiplication, division, and mixed operations for older ones. A teen difficulty level includes challenging number theory and multi-digit problems. Monster Battle is one of our most replayed games — children are motivated to improve their maths speed and accuracy because doing so directly determines whether they win or lose. This is a fundamentally different kind of motivation from test scores or sticker charts. The game was created by Australian teachers and parents who believe that maths practice should feel as engaging as any video game. Free to play, no login required.
